Synthesis Opus 15
2 pianos|13 mins | 1974 |Publisher: Novello & Co Ltd
Commissioned and first performed by the 2-piano team of Richard Rodney Bennett and the late Susan Bradshaw. The structural idea is an emotional Marxist dialectic: a couple who love each other get at cross-purposes, which build to a massive row - out of which comes sympathy, followed by passionate rumpy-pumpy. Kindly described by one critic as "a fearful hammering". Howard and Hilary Shelley also played it. spacer
